Past projects include:
- York's Jorvik Viking Centre - Richard devised & delivered (& project managed) the £4.8m re-building and re-launching of the world-famous site, reversing declining visitor numbers. The site has now been seen by well over 14m people from across the world.
- Shugborough - The Complete Working Historic Estate - was (in 2004) a virtually unknown, stately home in the UK Midlands with no direction (& few visitors). Richard re-cast the entire site and its interpretation & branding to present a fresh and lateral perspective on the stately home genre. The house was 'contextualised' to bring out the rich ancillary historic buildings (farm, walled garden, brewery, mill, kitchen, laundry) and then interpreted the whole estate through the eyes of servants in the 'first person' each doing things (real cooking, real milling, real brewing, real washing, etc.) thus providing a truely multi-sensory perspective equally attractive to all ages. The 2006 season visitor numbers were up 6% on 2005 when many others were down, and 2007 ended up 25% up on 2006, despite the wet weather. Astoundingly, the number of unique visits to Shugborough's website (per month) increased by over 2,000% between 2004 and 2007, and in 2004 a story featuring Shugborough's connection to 'The Holy Grail' went global appearing across the USA and on page 9 of 'The Bangkok Post .

- Castle Howard - was (in 2001) a classic stately home with very traditional interpretation. Richard added new life by introducing guides in the 'first person', themed tours of house/gardens, each designed to contextualise house & 'lighten' interpretation. He also set up a live archaeological excavation with opportunities for visitors to be archaeologists, adding a new slant (and a new attraction). Visitors increased 2% pa.
- Sister attraction to Jorvik, The Archaeological Resource Centre - Richard re-cast this educational resource centre to give a fresh, entirely new slant to this highly successful concept. It has since been developed again with all Richard's additons incorporated.
- Other Projects - Westminster Abbey, London. In 2006 Westminster Abbey's Canon Steward, The Revd Dr. Jane Hedges asked Richard if he'd care to give a brief overview of the visitor experience at this great Abbey, following a paper he gave to The 3rd National Visitor Attractions Conference in London on Shugborough. Dr Hedges said:
"Richard was of enormous help to me as we looked around the Abbey, putting himself in the shoes of a first-time visitor. He helped me see the importance of enabling our visitors and pilgrims to see the 'big view' of the Abbey before going to look at its many specific treasures."
- Other Projects - Lichfield Cathedral, Lichfield, Staffordshire. In 2005 Richard was invited to deliver a paper outlining his radical ideas for the re-display of Lichfield Cathedral and its Close to a one-day conference entitled 'Lichfield Inspires'.
